Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress Refresh to Bring New Decades, Easter Eggs to Tomorrowland Classic
Disney will add a Walt Disney audio-animatronic and reset the show around the 1960s, 1980s, Y2K and a far-future act.
- On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Disney announced that the Magic Kingdom attraction Carousel of Progress will close July 5 for its most ambitious makeover in over 30 years, with reopening expected in 2027.
- Walt Disney originally unveiled the attraction at the 1964 New York World's Fair, and the updated show will feature a new Audio-Animatronic of Walt, inspired by the 1964 special "Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair."
- New scenes will feature the 1960s, 1980s, and Y2K era, while Disney officials confirmed the animatronic family, dad jokes, and the Sherman Brothers song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" will remain.
- Citing "the great responsibility of keeping Walt's ideas of innovation alive," Disney Parks Blog confirmed the focus, while Mammoth Club co-founder Molly McCormack said she was "cautiously optimistic" about the update.
- The company recently completed the transition of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios, part of a broader strategy to evolve Magic Kingdom classics like Country Bear Musical Jamboree for current generations.
