Carney to Meet Burnham in Liverpool on Europe Trip
The leaders will discuss defence, energy and artificial intelligence as Carney seeks closer European ties amid strained relations with the United States.
Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham in Liverpool on Tuesday, marking their first in-person discussion during a three-day trip to Europe.
As relations with the United States worsen, Carney is pursuing deeper ties with nations in Europe, with Canadian counter tariffs on U.S. products having taken effect earlier this week.
Burnham, the former Greater Manchester mayor, became the United Kingdom's fourth prime minister in four years following a leadership race within the Labour Party, succeeding Keir Starmer at Downing Street.
During the trip, Carney will address the European Parliament in Strasbourg and attend the State of the European Union address, aiming to establish a new partnership with European Union officials.
Before departing for Europe, Carney is hosting a two-day investment summit in Toronto on Monday and Tuesday to bolster domestic economic prospects during a busy week.
