Carney teases economic activity already spurring from investment summit
Carney said deals have already been signed as the summit seeks $1 trillion in investment over five years.
On Monday, Prime Minister Mark Carney opened Canada's first-ever investment summit in Toronto, anchoring his strategy to stimulate $1 trillion in investment over the next five years.
Carney highlighted 15 major Ontario projects spanning energy, critical minerals, and AI to global executives, stating "We have what the world wants: the energy, the resources, the talent, the technology and the capital."
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said invitees from Japan, Australia, and Qatar are evaluating the province, calling it "one of the most investable places anywhere in the world."
Demonstrators, including labour unions and Indigenous leaders, plan "direct intervention" Monday carrying a banner reading "The Many vs. The Money" to reject Carney's plan to prioritize CEO interests.
Former Conservative prime minister Stephen Harper will deliver closing remarks, following Carney's emphasis on trust as an apparent jab at President Donald Trump.
