- Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday pledged $2 billion in military aid and more sanctions as Ukraine marked four years since Moscow's full-scale invasion.
- Russia launched its full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022, after earlier moves in 2014; the war has killed tens of thousands and left Russia controlling roughly 20 per cent of Ukraine.
- The package also provides $20 for energy infrastructure repairs, sanctions on 21 individuals and 53 entities, and more than 400 armoured vehicles, Ottawa said.
- Four years on, Carney said, `Russia is failing militarily, strategically and economically, and we are in it for the long term`, demonstrating Canada's unwavering support and allied coordination, including a Coalition of the Willing meeting.
- Canada is working with Ukraine and international partners to accelerate efforts toward a just and lasting peace backed by robust security guarantees and to degrade Russia's military capabilities by targeting cryptocurrency infrastructure, AI systems, and drone production.
