VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA, JUL 24 – Sam Docherty, a resilient Carlton captain who overcame cancer twice, will play his 184th and final AFL game as the club seeks a farewell win, coach Michael Voss said.
- On Thursday night at the MCG, Sam Docherty will play his 184th and final AFL game as Carlton, with finals hopes over, hosts Hawthorn seeking to send him off in style.
- Overcoming two bouts of testicular cancer, three knee reconstructions, and earning a best-and-fairest and All-Australian honors, Carlton veteran Sam Docherty has demonstrated remarkable career resilience.
- With team changes, Jacob Weitering will mark his 200th AFL game, as Harry McKay returns and Blake Acres is recalled, boosting Carlton's lineup.
- As the farewell loomed, Voss challenged his side to lift for their veteran, saying Docherty's `powerful legacy` could inspire the Blues.
- With his farewell complete, a tribute at the next home game on August 9 will honour Docherty in a tribute joined by partner Nat and children Ruby and Myles.
