Cardinal Mathieu in Rome After Evacuation From Iran

Cardinal Dominique Mathieu was evacuated amid embassy closure following U.S.-Israel strikes; about 3,500 Catholics live in Iran, with 1,300 Latin Catholics, officials said.

In a brief statement, Cardinal Mathieu said he arrived in Rome March 8 "not without regret and sorrow for our brothers and sisters in Iran."
