Cardiff City 1-1 Wrexham: Colwill Rescues Welsh Derby Point for Bluebirds with 98th-Minute Leveller
Rubin Colwill’s stoppage-time free-kick earned Cardiff a point after Kieffer Moore’s early opener, and Jack Moylan made his Championship debut.
On Monday, Cardiff City secured a 1-1 draw against Wrexham in their Championship season opener. Rubin Colwill scored a decisive free-kick in the 98th minute, beating Wrexham goalkeeper Anthony Patterson to deny the visitors victory.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson saw his side take an early lead just three minutes into the contest. Striker Kieffer Moore netted his seventh career goal against Cardiff, firing past goalkeeper Nathan Trott to put the visitors ahead.
Despite dominant play, Wrexham failed to extend their lead, with defender Callum Doyle striking the post and substitute Sam Smith missing a late opportunity. Cardiff goalkeeper Trott made several saves to keep the Bluebirds competitive before the late surge.
Cardiff's dramatic point came after George Dobson fouled Joel Colwill on the edge of the box in the eighth minute of injury time. Manager Brian Barry-Murphy's side salvaged a point in the Welsh derby with the late free-kick conversion.
Following the draw, Wrexham returns to the Racecourse Ground this Saturday, August 22, to face Watford. The Red Dragons seek their first league win of the 2026–27 campaign after the opening disappointment in South Wales.
