Car Found in Kootenay River with Human Remains Linked to 2004 Disappearance
Police say the recovered vehicle matches records tied to George Franklin Davis, and forensic testing is pending to confirm the remains, investigators said.
On Friday, Creston RCMP recovered a vehicle containing human remains from the Kootenay River, believed linked to George Franklin Davis, a man missing from the Creston-area for more than 22 years.
Davis vanished in July 2004 after leaving a residence in the 1300 block of Channel Road to purchase cigarettes; neither he nor his brown 1981 Chrysler LeBaron had been seen since.
A volunteer search and recovery dive team located the submerged vehicle near the Old Ferry Landing on Sept. 24, and The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team assisted with recovery on Sept. 28.
Police confirmed the vehicle's description and licence plate match records associated with Davis, though positive identification of the remains is pending forensic analysis and confirmation from the Coroners Service.
Investigations remain ongoing pending forensic testing results, though Police said the death is not believed to be suspicious and no foul play is suspected based on evidence gathered to date.
