Canucks Sign First-Round Draft Pick Novotny to Three-Year Entry-Level Contract
The deal blocks a potential NCAA move after Novotny posted 65 points in 58 games with Peterborough last season.
On Tuesday, the Vancouver Canucks signed 18-year-old forward Adam Novotny to a three-year entry-level contract, securing the prospect after selecting him 24th overall in the 2026 NHL draft.
Novotny, a Czech forward, joined the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes last season, recording 65 points in 58 games while helping Czechia secure a silver medal at the 2026 world junior championship.
Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson noted Novotny impressed management at the team's recent development camp, where the 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward demonstrated his combination of size and offensive production.
By signing this entry-level deal, the organization blocks any potential move to the NCAA, and management suggests Novotny could receive a trial at the NHL level during the upcoming 2026/27 campaign.
This signing supports the team's ongoing rebuild, as the organization integrates young prospects like Caleb Malhotra, Brooks Rogowski, and Braedon Cootes to restore Vancouver as a consistent Stanley Cup Playoffs threat.
