Canadiens goalie Montembeault exits practice early with injury
The veteran goalie left early after a save attempt and remains under evaluation, leaving Montreal’s plans for Thursday uncertain.
On Wednesday, October 7, Montreal Canadiens goalie Samuel Montembeault left practice in Brossard early after appearing to injure his right leg while making a save during a drill.
The injury adds to a growing list of absences for the Montreal Canadiens, who are already missing forward Ivan Demidov, forward Oliver Kapanen, and defenceman Kaiden Guhle due to separate lower-body setbacks.
Montembeault was expected to make his first start Thursday against the Nashville Predators, while starter Jakub Dobes currently holds a 1-1-1 record with a 4.43 goals-against average.
Should the injury prove significant, the Montreal Canadiens could recall top prospect Jacob Fowler from the Laval Rocket, where he has posted a 1-1 record with a 1.53 GAA in two games.
The Canadiens rank 30th in the NHL with 4.67 goals allowed per game, though defenceman Alexandre Carrier said, "Obviously, we can still improve, but it's going in the right direction.
