CANADA, AUG 5 – Canadians renewing Nexus travel cards must choose male or female only due to a U.S. executive order, affecting over 1.8 million program members, including many transgender and non-binary people.
- Amid U.S. restrictions, the Canada Border Services Agency said Canadians applying for Nexus cards in February 2025 can no longer select an X gender marker, enforcing male or female only.
- Amid the U.S. policy shift, the CBSA confirmed Tuesday that Trump's January executive order restricts recognition to male and female on Nexus cards.
- Statistics Canada found more than 100,000 transgender or non-binary people nationwide, and about 3,600 Canadians had an X marker on passports as of 2021, CBSA said.
