- On Thursday, the Swedish Academy in Stockholm awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature to Canadian poet and essayist Anne Carson for her genre-bending body of work.
- The Academy selected Carson "for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature."
- Renowned for blending antiquities with the avant-garde, Carson has served as a professor of classics for more than 30 years and published more than 20 books spanning poetry, essays, and translations.
- The prize, worth roughly $1.7 million in cash, will be officially presented on December 10, the anniversary of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel's death.
