Deported Canadian grandfather, detained at Alligator Alcatraz, returns home

He pleaded no contest to tax evasion and owes about $12,000, after U.S. immigration officials held him for 65 days.

According to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 32 Canadians have been deported since October. As Dixon walked through the arrival doors at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, there was a smile of relief on his face. “It’s good to be back in Canada,” Dixon said, grateful that his immigration detention nightmare was behind him. But his view of the U.S., where he had lived for more than two decades, had been altered.
