Canada loses net 65,500 jobs in August, jobless rate rises to 7.1%

- Job losses affected part-time positions primarily, with 60,000 fewer part-time jobs, alongside declines in professional, scientific, technical, transportation, and manufacturing sectors.
- Average hourly wages for permanent employees increased 3.2 percent year-over-year to $37.81, a key measure closely watched by the Bank of Canada.
- The data suggests that economic growth and hiring remain weak ahead of the Bank of Canada's interest rate decision scheduled for September 17, 2025.
