Can less sleep slow down aging?
The optimal amount of sleep for maintaining health and slowing biological aging across various organs, including the skin, is between 6.4 and 7.8 hours per night.
Sleeping less than six hours per night is strongly linked to increased risks of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, anxiety, and depression.
Sleeping more than eight hours per night is associated with serious mental illnesses such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, alcohol dependency, and ADHD.
Both insufficient and excessive sleep durations can accelerate the biological aging process of multiple body organs.
