A 5-hectare portion of the U.S. military’s Camp Foster — also known as Camp Zukeran — in Okinawa Prefecture is expected to be returned to Japan as early as fiscal 2026, which begins in April, several Japanese government sources said.

It was learned on the 9th through an interview with a government official that the Japanese and US governments are making arrangements to return part of the Kishaba Housing Area (approximately 5 hectares in Kitanakagusuku Village) of Camp Zukeran as early as fiscal 2026. It seems that a certain degree of progress has been made in completing the relocation of US military family housing, which is a condition for the return.
