Cameron Percy shoots 66 at rainy Firestone to take lead in senior major
Percy’s 4-under 66 in rainy conditions moved him to 7-under 133 and put him ahead of Jerry Kelly and Zach Johnson.
On Friday, Australian Cameron Percy shot a 4-under 66 at rainy Firestone Country Club to take a one-stroke lead in the Kaulig Companies Championship with a 7-under 133 total.
Rainy conditions at the Akron, Ohio course challenged players, with Percy emphasizing the difficulty: "You can't fake it around here. You've got to hit it solid."
First-Round leader Jerry Kelly shot 69 to tie for second, while 50-year-old Zach Johnson carded 67; Johnson said, "Seems like the harder the hole, the more difficulty I seem to execute even better."
Boo Weekley sits at 5-under after a 67, while Ryan Armour joined Retief Goosen, Darren Clarke, and Tag Ridings at 4-under, with Charles Schwab Cup leader Stewart Cink at 3-under.
This tournament marks the final year at Firestone, ending a PGA Tour relationship dating to the 1954 Rubber City Open; the 52-year-old Australian Percy seeks his first senior tour victory.
