14-Year-Old Monterey County Girl Rescued in Mexico; Father Accused of Incest Arrested

- On Sunday, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega was safely rescued in Mexico. Her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez, was arrested during the operation.
- Investigators began searching for the pair following the August 1 discovery of a newborn, dubbed by law enforcement "Baby Angelita," in the 100 block of Struve Road. Authorities allege Perez sexually abused and impregnated his daughter when she was 13.
- Monterey County prosecutors charged Perez with three felony counts, including incest and lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14. The girl's 36-year-old mother, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, was previously arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment.
- According to Sheriff Tina Nieto, Diana remains in the care of local authorities in Mexico. During the rescue, officials found Perez in possession of narcotics.
- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office stated the teenager is a "victim of her father's abuse," noting that "no child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances." Officials will provide further details at a future news conference.
