CALIFORNIA, JUL 24 – California Senate Bill 771 proposes fines up to $1 million for large platforms whose algorithms amplify hate speech, citing a rise in hate crimes and civil rights violations.

A bill making its way through the California Legislature could lead to seven-figure fines for social media platforms if they’re unable to keep a proliferation of hate speech under control.
