California Family on Easter Egg Hunt Finds Human Remains in Long Beach, Police Say
Investigators are awaiting forensic testing after a family found a skull and mandible during the hunt, police said.

- Officers arrived at the 5900 block of DeForest Avenue at 5 p.m. after receiving the call, with the site located about 7 miles north of downtown Long Beach along the Los Angeles River in an area featuring nature trails and wetlands.
- The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office responded to the scene as two officers covered the object with a canopy and part of the park was sealed off with yellow crime scene tape.
- As of Monday, police remained on scene awaiting forensic anthropologists from the Medical Examiner's Office, while witness Marc Zaldana described the family "freaking out a little bit" after the discovery.
- Police have not indicated an immediate public threat, though investigators will examine whether the discovery links to known cases while forensic testing determines the remains' nature and origin, with officials noting how long they have been at the site remains unknown.
