Cale Hellums runs for 223 yards, Dawson Jones delivers game-winner for Army in 20-17 win over Tulane
Hellums ran for a career-high 223 yards as Army finished a 12-play drive and won on Dawson Jones' 25-yard field goal.
On Saturday, Army edged Tulane 20-17 as running back Cale Hellums rushed for a career-high 223 yards and kicker Dawson Jones made the winning field goal on the final play.
Following a 31-29 loss to Louisiana Tech last week where the Army defense allowed 503 yards, the unit rebounded significantly to hold Tulane to 280 yards this week.
Hellums scored both Army touchdowns and bettered his previous career high of 155 yards set against Tulane last season, leading the Black Knights on a decisive 12-play, 58-yard drive.
Tulane led 10-7 through three quarters before the offenses dominated the final period; the Army defense then stopped Tulane on fourth down at the Black Knights' 33-yard line with four minutes remaining.
Army visits Florida Atlantic next Saturday, while the Green Wave faces Memphis on Friday in their respective upcoming contests.
