BENGALURU, KARNATAKA, JUL 24 – Karnataka Cabinet approved criminal cases and departmental inquiries citing security lapses and negligence after a stampede killed 11 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations.
- On Thursday , Karnataka State Cabinet decided to file criminal cases against RCB, KSCA and DNA Network, citing the Michael D'Cunha inquiry report’s findings.
- According to the commission report, the Michael D'Cunha inquiry found the June 4, 2025 stampede occurred during RCB celebrations, noting stakeholders proceeded despite unsafe conditions and terming the incident 'gross negligence and dereliction of duty'.
- Only 79 police personnel were deployed inside the stadium and none outside, exposing critical security lapses, as the stampede claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people.
- The cabinet ordered a departmental inquiry against senior police officials, with Commissioner B Dayananda and four other officers facing internal action.
- The Home Department will set up inquiry panels within days, while FIR registration and prosecution by Lokayukta police are next steps.
