In order to break the impasse on the housing market, outgoing Minister of Housing Mona Keijzer (BBB) is designating 24 new locations in the Netherlands where homes must be built more quickly. Together with builders, corporations and municipalities, Keijzer wants to tackle the housing shortage. "Every time you see how big this problem is, also in my area," says Keijzer.
According to Keijzer, the housing shortage is too great to wait any longer. Governments, project developers and housing corporations must therefore work together more. During the national Housing Summit, parties agreed to step up their efforts at twenty promising locations. By designating 24 so-called ‘acceleration areas’, she wants to pull housing construction out of the doldrums. In these areas, it must be faster, more efficient and with less bureaucracy. The minister wants to achieve five ‘breakthroughs’ this year, so that the construction of 100,000 homes is assured by 2026.
