Ontario Drivers See Dangerous Driving in Others, but Not Themselves
CAA South Central Ontario says 57% of drivers admit dangerous driving, even as 96% report seeing it on Ontario roads.
- A new CAA South Central Ontario survey reveals 96 per cent of Ontarians have witnessed dangerous driving in the past year, though only 57 per cent admit to engaging in such behaviors themselves.
- Speeding remains the most common observed behavior at 78 per cent, followed by aggressive driving at 69 per cent, unsafe lane changes at 68 per cent, and distracted driving at 67 per cent.
- More than one-third of drivers admit to speeding, typically traveling 10 to 19 km/h above the limit, while 87 per cent support fines and penalties for these infractions.
- Distracted driving also remains a serious concern, with 16 per cent of drivers involved in related collisions, a rate that rises to 62 per cent among those aged 18 to 34.
- "Most Ontario drivers can identify dangerous behaviours when they see them, but many don't realize they may be contributing to the problem themselves," said Michael Stewart, community relations consultant at CAA SCO.
