BYD Starts Selling the Shark Pickup Truck in Europe for F-150 King Ranch Money

  • On Wednesday, BYD opened UK orders for the Shark plug-in hybrid pickup, priced from about $63,000, with 56 miles of pure-electric range. Executive Vice President Stella Li said the market for such vehicles is "expanding rapidly."
  • The Shark uses a "Dual Mode Off-road" powertrain pairing a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with dual electric motors for an "EV-first" driving experience. BYD claims this setup delivers performance far beyond traditional diesel trucks.
  • Equipped with a 32.2 kWh Blade Battery, the Shark offers 56 miles of pure-electric range and 419 miles total on a full tank and charge. Fast charging reaches 80% capacity in about 21 minutes with "sports-car rivaling" performance.
  • The Shark can tow up to 5,512 pounds and carry a 1,742-pound payload, suiting varied work projects. Vehicle-to-Load capabilities provide up to 6.6 kW to power external tools and electronics on job sites.
  • Slightly larger than the Ford Ranger PHEV, the Shark offers significantly more electric range than the competitor's 27 miles. BYD says initial vehicle deliveries are scheduled for the final quarter of the year.
