BYD Shark 6 range to expand, but SUV version ruled out
The update adds a 2.0-litre turbo Performance model with 3,500kg towing and a work-focused cab-chassis variant for fleet buyers.
- BYD expanded the Shark 6 lineup, introducing the Performance variant with 3.5-tonne towing capacity and the Dynamic Cab Chassis starting at $55,900.
- The original Shark 6 faced criticism for its 2500kg towing capacity when the industry standard is 3500kg, prompting BYD to address shortcomings and compete against Ford Ranger and HiLux.
- Priced from $62,990, the Performance features a new 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 350kW and 700Nm, a 29kW/50Nm improvement over the Premium variant.
- Targeting fleet buyers, the Dynamic Cab Chassis offers a customizable work platform but remains limited to 2500kg braked towing capacity, lacking the Performance's enhanced capability.
- BYD Australia chief product officer Sajid Hasan confirmed an SUV based on the Shark is "not going to happen," though the company continues exploring range expansion opportunities.
