The coral reefs of the Mexican Caribbean are in a critical situation, as they are losing their capacity to be coastal protectors, as a result of the rise in sea level and their own degradation, warns a study published in the journal Nature, where Lorenzo Álvarez Filip, researcher at the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología (Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) participated.
