BWF World Championships: Lakshya Sen Fights Back to Down Austria's Collins Filimon
Garret Tan overcomes exhaustion and an on-court medical scare to secure the biggest win of his career against Lakshya Sen, who said he had little answer.
On Tuesday, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated Austria's Collins Valentine Filimon 16-21, 21-8, 21-4 in the BWF World Championships Round of 64 in Delhi. The 45-minute comeback victory secured his place in the second round.
Persistent wind inside the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium affected Sen's net play early, forcing him to hesitate with power. Filimon's 190-centimeter height advantage compounded the difficulty during the opening game.
Adjusting his tactics, Sen engaged Filimon in longer rallies during the second and third sets. "I tried to open up the game," he said, citing patience as the key to recovery.
The home crowd supported Sen throughout his debut performance at the tournament. He advances to face USA's Garret Tan, who defeated Switzerland's Tobias Kuenzi 21-4, 21-15 in the second round.
Sen trained at the National Centre for Excellence in Guwahati to manage drift conditions ahead of the tournament. He remains focused on maintaining improved body language against Tan in upcoming rounds.
