Josie Murray says the four-year-old had gone missing before and denies police claims that she helped cover up his death.
Denying involvement in the disappearance of grandson Gus Lamont, Josie Murray, 75, broke her silence on 7NEWS Spotlight Sunday, dismissing police theories that she buried the child as "ludicrous".
Gus vanished from the family's remote Oak Park Station on September 27 last year, prompting a massive search; police now consider family members suspects, citing "inconsistencies" in timelines and accusing some of withdrawing cooperation.
