Bumpy the orphaned hippo can't get enough of his caretakers and follows them everywhere
The calf quickly bonded with keepers and sleeps best when cuddled, while rescuers believe his mother died from natural causes after a territorial fight.
In NAIROBI, Kenya, wildlife rescuers brought an orphaned newborn hippo, Bumpy, to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust on May 2 for specialized care and rehabilitation.
Rescuers with the Kenya Wildlife Service Vet and Capture found Bumpy beside his mother, who died the day before from natural causes potentially stemming from a territorial fight.
"Bumpy is already hooked on his Keepers," the trust said, noting he follows staff like a shadow and remains a "very chatty fellow" who grunts noisily.
Now thriving at the sanctuary, the "particularly adorable" hippo has captured the hearts of the team, frequently snuggling with his new friends for comfort.
"This little hippo has nudged right into our hearts," the trust said, emphasizing Bumpy now has a family and a "wild future to look forward to.
