Upstate NY Priest, on Leave Since 2019, Arrested on Federal Child Pornography Charges
Investigators say a search of multiple electronic devices found videos of child sexual abuse, and Nowak faces 5 to 20 years if convicted.
On Wednesday, federal authorities arrested 46-year-old Jeffrey Nowak, a former Buffalo Diocese priest, on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography; he is scheduled for a court appearance Thursday before Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer.
The FBI reopened the investigation in March 2026 after receiving a referral from Scotland regarding an online group sharing content during Zoom calls, while Nowak had been on administrative leave since 2019 following allegations of inappropriate contact with children.
Agents executed a search warrant at Nowak's Lackawanna residence on Wednesday, seizing electronic devices including one hidden inside a Bible case, and linked the username "PigBoy666" to him during their investigation.
If convicted, Nowak faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo stated Nowak "hid behind a keyboard and took part in the tragic exploitation of one of society's most vulnerable populations."
The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo stated they "just learned of the allegations" and will cooperate fully with the inquiry, confirming Nowak has not functioned as a priest since being placed on permanent leave in 2019.
