"This rise is mechanical. It is a consequence of a deficit that remains high," the ministry added at a press conference, after submitting the budget texts for 2027 to the High Council for Public Finance (HCFP) during the night.
On Friday, the government forwarded its draft budget to the High Council for Public Finance. The text foresees a further increase in compulsory levies, which will be the main factor in the expected reduction of the deficit. The debt will continue to rise.
The Ministry of Economy has announced that France's public debt will reach 119.3% of GDP in 2026 and 121.7% in 2027. This increase is due to a high public deficit, expected to reach 5.4% of GDP in 2026.
