Buckingham Palace Doubles Number of Paintings on Display in Rehung Picture Gallery
The re-hang nearly doubles the number of paintings on display to 120 and includes works by Rubens, Caravaggio and Rembrandt.
Tomorrow, July 9, the 47-metre-long Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace reopens, featuring a "once-in-a-generation re-display" that nearly doubles the number of masterpieces on view to 120.
Curators spent 875 hours transforming the state room, replacing 1976 coral pink velvet wall coverings with vibrant emerald-green silk damask to reflect evolving historical tastes.
Works by Peter Paul Rubens, Johannes Vermeer, and Johan Zoffany now feature prominently, including Zoffany's "The Tribuna of the Uffizi," commissioned by Queen Charlotte but declined for display.
Clarence House remains the London home for King Charles III, who will not move into the palace despite the £369 million refurbishment programme scheduled for completion next year.
Visitors can also view a 2023 oil study of Charles by Jonathan Yeo, newly gifted to the Royal Collection and displayed in the adjacent Silk Tapestry Room.
