'Bubbly' Girl, 15, Died After Getting Into Difficulty at Beach
Chiedza Nyanjowa, 15, died after getting into difficulty in the water, and police said the heatwave has brought at least 13 UK water deaths.
Chiedza Nyanjowa, 15, died Saturday at Alder Hey Children's Hospital after getting into difficulty in the water at Formby beach, Southport, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25.
Merseyside Police Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall expressed gratitude to the public for assistance during the incident, noting, "We know that Formby beach was exceptionally busy on Monday."
Remembered as a "bubbly person" who "loved Christ," Nyanjowa wanted to be a nurse, her family said, adding, "This is a difficult time for the family, who would appreciate any form of prayer."
Following her death on Saturday, May 30, a post-mortem report has been passed to the Sefton Coroner's office, with Merseyside Police confirming the incident today.
The tragedy marks the 13th water-related death in the UK during the ongoing heatwave, with fatalities reported across Scotland, South Yorkshire, and Lancashire.
