After 25 years of negotiations, the College of European Commissioners approved this Thursday (03/09) agreement to create the world's largest economic blockade, with more than 700 million people.
The EU is closer to the planned free trade area with the South American Mercosur countries. On Wednesday, the Commission initiated the final voting procedure in the EU. The agreement is also seen as a response to Donald Trump's customs policy. However, it is not clear whether the deal will find the necessary majority.

The European Commission will present today the legal texts of the association and free trade agreement which Brussels concluded in December with the Mercosur countries, but which still needs the approval of the Twenty-Seven – with reservations like that of France – and of the European Parliament to be ratified by the European Union.
