Summit Fire in Llano 31% Contained, Forward Progress Stopped
Firefighters warned that hot, dry and windy conditions could still drive rapid growth as crews battled interior burning and difficult terrain.
On Sunday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that firefighters stopped the forward progress of the Summit Fire in the Antelope Valley, which burned 2,690 acres and reached 31% containment.
The blaze erupted Friday near Jesus Canyon Road and East Avenue Z in Llano, prompting more than 500 firefighters from Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, and the U.S. Forest Service to respond.
As of Sunday, officials confirmed the fire damaged one residence and destroyed one minor structure, with no injuries reported among personnel battling the blaze.
Authorities lifted all evacuation orders and the Red Cross closed its shelter at the Antelope Valley YMCA in Lancaster, allowing residents to return home.
Firefighters remain on scene monitoring for flare-ups, as officials warn that high temperatures and gusty winds expected to persist could still challenge containment efforts.
