Browns Put DE Alex Wright on Season-Ending IR, Sign Derek Barnett

The Cleveland Browns placed defensive end Alex Wright on season-ending injured reserve on Sunday, signing veteran Derek Barnett to fill the roster spot.
Wright suffered the season-ending Achilles tendon rupture during a joint practice with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, going down in a one-on-one drill against Bills offensive tackle Spencer Brown.
Barnett, a 10-year veteran, has recorded 34 sacks, 216 total tackles, and 104 quarterback hits across 112 games with the Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans.
The Browns signed Barnett to a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million, replacing Wright who signed a three-year, $33 million contract extension last November.
Wright will undergo surgery and spend this season rehabbing with an eye on returning for the 2027 season, while Cleveland will evaluate Isaiah McGuire and Mike Hall to start opposite Jared Verse.
