Brits issued pub warning over next few weeks amid '5 million pints to be pulled'
Zonal data shows bookings are up 300% and pub arrivals 293% as fans gather for England’s opening World Cup match.
Pubs saw an almost 300% surge in bookings ahead of England's opening World Cup match against Croatia on Wednesday, with fans gathering despite later-than-usual kick-off times.
The hospitality sector anticipates a 42% increase in sales throughout the group stage, building on momentum from Euro 2024, according to technology provider Zonal.
Kate Nicholls, chairwoman of UKHospitality, stated the tournament will be a "massive boost for our pubs and bars," as fans gather to support their local establishments.
Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, expects an extra five million pints to be pulled, while Opinium research projects £600 million in additional spending.
According to James Nicandrou of Opinium, pubs "continue to occupy an important place in community life," providing spaces for people to share moments during the campaign.
