British Cyclist Dies in Volta a Portugal Accident

On Friday, British cyclist Finlay Tarling died following an accident during the eighth stage of the Volta a Portugal race, his NSN Development Team confirmed.
Portugal's RTP broadcaster reported that Tarling was struck by a non-race vehicle traveling in the opposite direction during the UCI 2.1 stage from Megalao to Fafe.
The 19-year-old was a Welsh time trial specialist in his second season with the NSN Development Team and the younger brother of Netcompany-Ineos rider Josh Tarling.
Race officials neutralized the remainder of Friday's stage until reaching Fafe and cancelled the podium ceremony as a sign of respect and mourning.
Portuguese President Antonio Jose Seguro expressed condolences, stating the death "plunged the peloton, the tournament and the host nation into mourning," while Cycling Weekly extended thoughts to the family.
