UK Unveils Revamped Passport Featuring King Charles’ Coat of Arms
The updated passport adds new security features and British landscape watermarks while replacing Queen Elizabeth II’s emblem with King Charles’s coat of arms, Home Office says.
- Next month, the Home Office will begin rolling out updated passports featuring His Majesty King Charles III’s Coat of Arms, replacing the Queen Elizabeth II design, with issuance from December.
- Passport designs are routinely refreshed to reflect His Majesty King Charles III and include security upgrades, replacing Queen Elizabeth II-linked elements and amending inside text to note His Britannic Majesty.
- The new passport strengthens security by using a photo page made from ultra-thin polycarbonate and adding holographic and translucent elements plus watermark-style images of Ben Nevis, the Lake District, Three Cliffs Bay, and the Giant’s Causeway.
- Recipients should note that new-passport holders must reapply for US ESTA and re-register for the EU Entry-Exit System, while existing passports remain valid until expiry and processing may exceed three weeks.
- Practical renewal rules mean applicants can carry over up to nine months, with fees earlier this year—standard online application —and higher costs for postal and one-day premium services.
