Britain and EU formally sign Gibraltar treaty, easing border crossings

- Elena Cordero, 29, hopes closer integration with the Schengen system brings benefits, though people have become accustomed to choosing good hours to avoid queues for an hour.
- Transitional arrangements for some tobacco products extend until July 2028, while Gibraltar tobacco businesses have stocked warehouses with cigarettes manufactured before the treaty change in anticipation of price shifts.

Britain and the European Union formally signed on Tuesday a treaty on the status of Gibraltar, following an agreement struck last year aimed at easing border crossings and ending years of political uncertainty over the British overseas territory.
Minister Albares welcomes the fact that on Tuesday night "the last wall of continental Europe" will disappear. "It is a very special feeling to see a fence fall", they add from the Commission.
Vedation between the British colony and the Spanish city of La Línea da Concepción will cease to exist. Historical agreement "opens a new era" between Europe and Gibraltar.
