Brenda Blethyn's Life Off-Screen at 80 and Reason for Quitting Vera
- On Wednesday at 9pm, Channel 4 premieres A Woman of Substance, starring Brenda Blethyn as the older Emma Harte and Jessica Reynolds as the younger Emma Harte.
- Based on Barbara Taylor Bradford's 1979 novel, A Woman of Substance adapts a book that has sold over 30 million copies and remakes the 1985 television adaptation after more than four decades.
- The series unfolds over eight hour-long episodes, filmed across Yorkshire with an ensemble cast including Emmett J Scanlan, Will Mellor and Lenny Rush.
- Vera fans will note Brenda Blethyn's return to TV in her first role since Vera ended last year after 14 years on ITV, while Channel 4's 1985 adaptation remains its most successful drama ever.
- The second episode airs on Thursday, March 12 in the same timeslot, repeating nightly for the remaining six episodes with all available as a boxset on Channel 4's player.
