Nigeria's President Names Taiwo Oyedele as New Finance Minister
Wale Edun is removed as finance minister as Taiwo Oyedele takes over, while another nominee is named for housing and urban development.
- On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu reshuffled the Federal Executive Council, removing Minister of Finance Wale Edun and Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ahmed Dangiwa while appointing Taiwo Oyedele and Muttaqha Rabe Darma as successors.
- SGF George Akume explained that the changes aim to "strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance" while delivering more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
- President Tinubu exercised powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution in approving the reshuffle, commending outgoing ministers for their service to the Federal Republic.
- By the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, Edun and Dangiwa must transfer all responsibilities to their successors or interim leads, following the Secretary's directive.
- Taiwo Oyedele now serves as the substantive Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Muttaqha Rabe Darma awaits confirmation to officially lead the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
