- The tanker reportedly lost control and spilled its contents before igniting, amidst ongoing expressway reconstruction and previous crashes causing gridlocks.
- Emergency responders including FRSC and Ogun State Fire Service arrived to control the blaze that engulfed at least three trucks and several private vehicles.
- FRSC Spokesperson Florence Okpe acknowledged the explosion, noting that rescue efforts were still underway and that no deaths had been reported so far, although a minimum of four vehicles were extensively damaged by the fire.
- The incident caused severe congestion stretching to Berger and highlighted the urgent need for improved emergency response and petroleum transport regulation on the busy expressway.
