At least $7 billion is needed annually to protect the Amazon, according to World Bank data. However, between 2013 and 2022 “only 5,810 million were mobilized.” The realization of COP30 this year, for the first time in the largest rainforest on the planet, places an important weight on the organization and the developed countries for which financial support is required.
The document, signed by several entities, says that Brazil "has a historic chance to prevent Amazon from reaching a point of no return", and calls for $7,000 million for conservation.
The agreement gives Norwegian salmon and oil zero tariffs to Brazil, but lacks real goals and opportunities to protect the Amazon rainforest, according to the fund.
