Braves Acquire Catcher Joey Bart From Pirates for Pitcher Hunter Stratton
The Pirates added a veteran reliever as they reshaped a crowded catcher group, with Endy Rodríguez hitting .267/.413/.467 in 23 games.
On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates traded catcher Joey Bart to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Hunter Stratton, who was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Pittsburgh faced a roster dilemma because Bart was out of minor league options, forcing the team to clear the positional logjam with Henry Davis and Endy Rodriguez on the major league roster.
Returning to Pittsburgh, Stratton played for the team from 2023 to 2025 before being traded to Atlanta last summer, making 47 appearances for the organization during his previous tenure.
While All-Star Sean Murphy remains on the 60-day injured list, Atlanta added Bart to support 2025 National League Rookie of the Year Drake Baldwin, designating Sandy Leon for assignment to make room.
Both the Braves and Pirates hope these strategic additions improve their competitiveness down the stretch, with Atlanta gaining depth support for a potential World Series run.
