Bullpen Holds as Twins Hang on Against Braves
Josh Bell sparked a four-run first inning as Minnesota won despite leaving the bases loaded in the eighth, officials said.
On Monday in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Twins defeated the Atlanta Braves 4-2, snapping a three-game losing streak. Designated hitter Josh Bell powered the offense with a two-run double.
Atlanta left-hander Martin Perez allowed four first-inning runs as the Twins took control early. Bell's two-run ground-rule double started the scoring, followed by RBI singles from Royce Lewis and Kody Clemens.
Play started after a 51-minute delay, with starter Bailey Ober lasting 4 1/3 innings. Ober allowed two runs on six hits, while Perez surrendered nine hits across five frames.
Relievers Taylor Rogers, Jeff Hoffman, and Travis Adams bridged the gap before Yoendrys Gomez secured his 18th save. Hoffman escaped an eighth-inning jam partly due to a diving defensive play by Clemens.
Right-Hander Zebby Matthews, holding a 6-8 record and 5.34 ERA, starts for Minnesota on Tuesday night. The Twins seek to build on this series-opening win against Atlanta.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Josh Bell's two-run double scored in a first four-run inning, and Minnesota Twins resisted to beat 4-2 the Atlanta Bravos on Tuesday night.
