Braves acquire OF Lane Thomas from the Royals
On Saturday, the Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Lane Thomas and left-hander Bailey Falter from the Kansas City Royals, sending pitching prospects Carter Holton and Lucas Braun to Kansas City.
Braves President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos identified Thomas as a needed corner outfield bat; the 30-year-old will likely platoon with Mike Yastrzemski in left field rather than play everyday center.
Thomas is slashing.230/.325/.392 this year but boasts an.850 career OPS against left-handed pitching, offering the Braves significant value in platoon situations.
While Falter will report to Triple-A Gwinnett to provide pitching depth, the trade offers Holton a fresh start in the Royals' organization ahead of Monday's 6 p.m. trade deadline.
Thomas will join the Braves on Tuesday for the first of a three-game series against Miami, integrating into the lineup as Atlanta pursues roster upgrades.
