Branford man headed to prison for beating 12-year-old son to death, attempting to kill daughter
He pleaded guilty in April and received consecutive 40-year and 20-year terms for the killings and attack, prosecutors said.
On Monday, Judge Tracy Lee Dayton sentenced Anthony Andrew Esposito Jr., 53, to 60 years in prison for the 2025 murder of his 12-year-old son, Anthony P. Esposito, and attempted murder of his teenage daughter.
Following the May 1, 2025, beating death of his son in their Hemlock Road condo, Esposito picked up his daughter, brought her home, and pushed her down the stairs, later admitting to police he intended to kill her too.
Esposito alleged his son acted "disrespectful," claiming voices told him to use a baseball bat, according to the Branford Police Department and Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad investigation.
The 60-year term comprises 40 years for murder and 20 years for attempted murder, served consecutively, with the judge calling it "one of the worst cases the Court has seen."
Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Adrienne Russo highlighted the courage of the daughter and mother, while commending Branford Police Social Worker Danielle Suraci for "extraordinary efforts in supporting and guiding the family" throughout the case.
