Brainerd man accused of killing co-worker with hydraulic grapple on job in Apple Valley
Prosecutors say Christopher Boone Crimmins was the only licensed operator on the crew and faces up to 10 years in prison.
- On August 20, 34-year-old Christopher Boone Crimmins was charged with second-degree manslaughter after allegedly killing co-worker 26-year-old Tyler Anthony Lynch with a hydraulic grapple during a tree-trimming job in Apple Valley, Minnesota.
- Crimmins told police that he and Lynch had been "f---ing around" on Thursday while manipulating shadows cast by the grapple. Distracted by the shadows, Crimmins unknowingly lowered the machinery over Lynch's head, crushing him.
- Police discovered Lynch on the ground with significant head trauma and blood around his body. Witnesses reported seeing the grapple strike or pinch Lynch, and Crimmins was the only crew member with a commercial driver's license to operate the boom.
- The felony second-degree manslaughter charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence and $20,000 fine. Bail for Crimmins is set at $40,000 unconditional or $20,000 with conditions; as of Sunday, he was not listed in Dakota County Jail records.
- Crimmins is scheduled to appear in Dakota County District Court on September 10 for an omnibus hearing. It remains unclear whether he has retained legal counsel to represent him against the manslaughter charge.
